Katarina Wit began skating at five. Her talents soon became evident and she was accepted to a special school for children with a talent for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. This is where she met her trainer Jutta M ller. Witt made her breakthrough in 1982, after she finished second at her first World Championships at Copenhagen. In the years since, Witt's grace and beauty have captured the attention of everyone. Olympic victory at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games, Katarina Witt came through a closely race to claim the women's figure skating gold medal. Then, four years after her win, she managed to take home an even competitive race. Although she lost in the competition for free skating, the medal was given to her for her performances on the mandatory figures, as well as on the program in short form. Witt was the first woman to be a repeated winner of figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success as an acting career, but she returned to her sport to participate in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Though she did not win a medal, Witt delighted her fans despite coming in seventh. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
