Adults can be defined as animals or human beings who have completed their developmental stage. Adults are social concepts and also a legal notion within the world of humans. Contrary to the term "minor" or "non-adult" legally-aged adult is a person that has reached the age of the age of majority. They are considered competent, responsible and independent. It is possible to refer to them as a "major". The age of 18 is the legal adult age, however, this definition may differ depending on the country, rights of the law or mental development.

The lifespan of an individual adulthood is the time when a person is at the point of complete intellectual and physical maturation. Typically, the age of adulthood is around age 21, or 20. Following middle age (starting about 40 years old) then comes older age (around the age of 60). The three phases of adulthood include early adulthood (from the mid 30s until late 60s), middle adulthood from mid-30s to late-60s and later adulthood, (mid-60s until end of life). The physical maturation process is complete by the time we reach our early adulthood years (20-40s) however, height and weight might rise a bit. As we grow older, we are at the top of our physical capabilities.
